Junior FAQs

Here we answer some basic questions you may have about the competition. Please take the time to read these to avoid any issues when your child commences playing.

How does my child join?

You have 2 options when your child is signing up to play oztag which is all done online.
• Individuals (not part of a team yet)
• Enter a team

Individuals

  1. Players can sign on as an individual and we will find a team for you. PLEASE NOTE WHEN REGISTERING, REGISTER YOUR CHILD, NOT YOURSELF
  2. Players can sign up with friends and we will keep you together.
  3. Players only nominate friends they know are also individuals looking for a team.
  4. We cannot place players into registered teams without managers authority.
  5. Individuals will be notified of the team they are placed in AFTER registrations close on September 1st 2023. Players will receive a text message notifying team and shirt colour. Please be patient during this process.
  6. We accept NSW Active Kids Vouchers and QLD Fair Play Vouchers.

Enter a Team

To register a team, the Team Manager must download the team sheet (CLICK HERE)

  1. Team Manager MUST SEND COMPLETED TEAM SHEET TO tweedcoast@oztag.com.
  2. Team Manager to notify their players that team is created and when registrations will be closing. (Monday 23rd August)
    All parents to add their child themselves to the team created by their manager.
    PLEASE NOTE WHEN REGISTERING, REGISTER YOUR CHILD, NOT YOURSELF
  3. Updates will be sent to Team Managers regularly prior to start date.
  4. Please do not sign on a team that is not a full team. 10+ players
  5. We are able to keep small groups together where possible.

Am I able to register my child as an individual player?

Yes. Oztag helps place children individually into teams. We do our best to place your child into a team they will feel comfortable with.

I have signed my child up to play Junior Oztag but don’t know what team he/she has been placed into?

We have a record of all players we have placed into teams. All individuals team lists will be posted on this website approx 10 days before the start of the competition and parents will also be notified by text. Please be patient during this process.

How long does the junior season run?

September – December

What day is Junior Oztag Played?

Monday: U7s Mixed, Under 9 Boys & U9 Girls (Starting Monday 18th September 2023)

Wednesday: U11s, U13s & U15 Boys & Girls (Starting Wednesday 20th September 2023)

SUPER SUNDAY is Sunday 22nd October 2023. ALL teams will play 2 games. We break over the school holidays.

How long do the games go for?

Games run for 30 minutes (15 minutes halves)

Game start times range from 3:50pm to 6:10pm

How much does Junior Oztag Cost?

A yearly $15 Membership Fee for players under the age of 15, and your child’s $90
Registration Fee for the season they are playing in. For details information on fees please click here.

What uniform does my child need to wear to play?

Official Oztag Shorts must be worn to play (cost $30.00) or tights (cost $35.00). Available online when registering. Merchandise to be collected at Admin before Round 1.

ONLY OFFICIAL OZTAG SHORTS CAN BE WORN. PLAYERS MAY BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE PLAYING FIELD IF INCORRECT SHORTS ARE WORN. NO LEAGUE TAG SHORTS NO HOME-MADE SHORTS

Shirts All players must wear the same coloured numbered shirts. Tweed Coast Oztag (TCO) DO NOT provide team shirts. Teams are to organise and team delegate to advise TCO.
NOTE: Individuals placed on teams will be allocated a shirt colour to match that of the team they were placed on.
Footwear No metal or screw in stud type shoes allowed. Sandshoes are allowed but not recommended due to players not having a good grip.

Where do we find if games will be cancelled due to weather?

Details will be posted on our Facebook page on game days so please ensure you like and follow.

Can I make sure that my child is placed into a team with their friend?

We will do everything we can but in some cases it is not possible due to teams being full.
But we do have a very high success rating at making this possible.

What divisions are available for my child to play in?

BOYS/GIRLS/MIXED: U7s Mixed (any combination of boys & girls allowed)

U9s, U11s, U13s, U15s Boys and Girls
Example: If you turn 10 in 2023 you are in the U11s
Players can play up an age division just not down a division.

Born 2008-2009: Under 15s

Born 2010-2011: Under 13s

Born 2012-2013: under 11s

Born 2014-2015: under 9s

Born 2016-2017-2018: under 7s 

Will Semi & Grand finals be played?

Finals will only be played in division’s u11 and above for both Boys and Girls
The u7 to u9 divisions are non-competitive age groups. This means no official competition ladders is kept.

My child wants to play with friends that are OLDER can he/she do this?

We do not encourage this, however as long as the parents and the child are happy to do this we have no problem as long as parent consent is given.

My daughter wants to play in a boy’s team. Can she?

We do not encourage this, however as long as the parents and the child are happy to do this we have no problem as long as parent consent is given.

Who & What is a Delegate?

They are your team & our team contact. We have many parents that sign up as a delegate to help organize a team to pass on any game times or any relevant information concerning draws etc.

Does Oztag provide Coaches?

Being a social sport, Oztag does not have coaches. We do however have development officers who assist teams grasp the basics of the game each afternoon we play. Just come up and see the admin desk to organise someone to assist your team.

Will my child need to be graded?

Oztag does not grade team or players. Oztag is a social sport designed for children to make up teams so that they can play with their friends. We have teams made up from school class friends, winter sport teams (netball, Rugby league, Rugby Union, Soccer etc.) and from individuals signing up.

Does my child need to attend training each week?

No training days are scheduled for players. It is up to individual teams to arrange their own training days if they choose to do so. The majority of team’s do not train at all.
